Mentor Spark
Mentor Spark is an initiative of IEEE Student Branch of University of Peradeniya mostly focusing on academical, professional and personal skill development of First Year Undergraduates at Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. The main goal of this project is to make the freshmen aware of the invaluable insights and knowledge that the mentors, the later graduates wish they had possessed during their early years.
The project Mentor Spark includes Workshops, Webinars, Group Tasks and Challenges, Networking Sessions, Site Visits and Guided Projects. This enhanced programm not only empowers the undergraduates academically, professionally, and personally but also provides a vibrant environment of mutual learning.
Mentor Spark is a 6-week long program conducted as small groups called "Circles". A circle is composed of a Mentee Sphere, the group of students that are primarily benefited through a learning and practice phase who are at the receiving end, and a Mentor Sphere, the layer that support the mentees and transfer wisdom from. During the course, each circle has to go through a series of milestones together to complete the program.
Assigning Circles
The mentees and mentors are grouped into small units called circles. Each of these Circles of 6-8 members is composed of 4 links throughout the program to guide and support the mentees. Each layer has a specific role to play in the process and they all benefit from the program. The circles are formed based on the Field of Interest of each layer to maximize the compatibility within each other and the effectiveness of the program.
These cricles come together to go through a program extending for 6-weeks with 3 milestones. The program will conclude by guiding each team to complete a mini-project of their own in the field of their interest. The timeline is shows below,
