Unveiling the Events of 2024 

Open Hearts

Date: 21st December 2024

Open Hearts was an event organized by IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Peradeniya aimed at brightening the lives of children at Singithi Sevana Children's Home.  The initiative focused on donating children’s books to inspire their imagination and foster a love for learning. The event also featured fun games and activities, filling the day with joy and laughter. This meaningful effort combined education and entertainment, leaving a lasting positive impact on the children’s lives and highlighting the spirit of giving and community support.

WIE Unveil '24

Date: 12th December 2024

WIE Unveil '24 was a virtual event held via Zoom, introducing IEEE Women in Engineering and volunteering opportunities to the E21, E22, and E23 batches of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Featuring keynote addresses by Prof. Maheshi Dissanayake and Dr. Akila Wijethunga, the event inspired participants with insights on leadership, innovation, and inclusivity, highlighting the power of collaboration and the potential of volunteering to shape a more inclusive and empowered future in STEM. 

VoltEdge

Date: 23rd October 2024

IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with IEEE PES Student Chapter of the University of Peradeniya, hosted VoltEdge, an insightful lecture on Smart Grids & Renewable Energy. Conducted by Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, the session showcased transformative advancements in energy systems, emphasizing the integration of renewable energy into smart grid technologies to drive sustainability and efficiency. The event enriched participants with valuable knowledge about power systems, smart grids, and renewable energy, inspiring them to contribute to a sustainable energy future. 

Field Visit

Date: 31st August 2024

Field visit to the Kothmale Hydro Power Station and dam provided participants with a rare and valuable opportunity to gain firsthand experience of one of Sri Lanka’s significant hydroelectric power stations. The visit included in-depth discussions on the operations of the facility, its importance to the country’s energy grid, and the engineering marvels involved in hydroelectric power generation. This immersive experience offered students practical insights into sustainable energy production and the technical intricacies of managing a large-scale power plant.

Radiant Revelry

Date: 9th July 2024

Radiant Revelry was a vibrant and interactive event organized to celebrate IEEE WIE Day with the newly enrolled E22 undergraduates. Over 130 participants joined the celebration, which aimed to inspire and engage the new batch through a variety of activities. The event featured engaging mini-games, a thrilling treasure hunt, and an insightful recorded talk by Ms. Anuththara Rupasinghe, a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. The day was filled with fun, learning, and camaraderie, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.

Career Ascend

Date: 23rd June 2024

Mr. Dhammika Marasinghe conducted an engaging session on "Career Ascend: Your Path to Professional Success," which successfully concluded with over 100 participants. Attendees gained invaluable insights on crafting the perfect CV, understanding industry expectations, and mastering LinkedIn for job searching and networking. The session equipped participants with the knowledge to create standout CVs, optimize LinkedIn profiles, and understand the skills needed for career success. This event represented a major milestone in professional development and effective networking. 

InnovateX '24

Date: 26th April 2024

The event welcomed over 80 Advanced Level female students from Kandy district schools, aiming to empower them with leadership skills and enrich their STEM knowledge. Distinguished speakers delivered lectures on engineering and inspiring girls in STEM. The program featured a practical session on electronic components and circuits, a guided tour of the engineering faculty, and hands-on Arduino projects. The top three circuit designs received prizes, and all participants were awarded gifts. The event successfully inspired young women to pursue STEM careers, supported by an enthusiastic volunteer team.
