What is CS?

The IEEE Computer Society is dedicated to advancing the theory, practice, and application of computer science and engineering. Its objectives are scientific, literary, and educational in nature, fostering innovation and excellence in computing and information technology. The society promotes high professional standards among its members while supporting research, education, and industry collaboration. All activities align with the Constitution and Bylaws of the IEEE, with a special focus on the society’s Field of Interest in computing and related disciplines.

What We Have Done

Project Parithyaga – Flood Relief Initiative

Project Parithyaga was a humanitarian initiative supporting University of Peradeniya students affected by flooding. Following a needs assessment, the team purchased essential items and prepared personalized relief packages instead of distributing funds directly. The project was organized by the IEEE Computer Society chapter with support from the IEEE Sri Lanka Section.

The Input–Output Problem: Generative AI and Intellectual Property

This guest lecture examined the legal and ethical implications of generative AI, including ownership of AI-generated content, intellectual property, international regulatory approaches, patents, and responsible AI usage. The session encouraged participants to use AI as a supportive tool while preserving human creativity, originality, and accountability.

LEVEL UP – Career Readiness Series 2026

LEVEL UP was a four-session professional development series designed to prepare undergraduates for internships and employment. Industry professionals from IFS, Thomson Reuters, and SLT-Mobitel shared practical guidance on CV preparation, technical interviews, behavioural interviews, and recruitment expectations. The online series recorded more than 350 cumulative participants.

From Vibe Coding to Context Engineering

This technical session explored the transition from informal AI-assisted “vibe coding” to structured context engineering. Participants learned how to provide AI systems with clear context, make intentional implementation decisions, and transform rapidly generated prototypes into reliable, production-ready applications suitable for professional software development environments.
